Chicory is often used as a nutritional feed crop for stock.
Its most well-known edible use may be the use of the ground root as the coffee substitute, Chicory Coffee.
It’s also a valuable herb. It has historically been used for parasite elimination, pain relief, sedation, staphylococcus, E. Coli, Candida, Salmonella, athletes’ foot, ringworm, jock itch, malaria, jaundice, enlarged spleen, fatty liver, diabetes, digestive problems, ulcers, skin eruptions, swellings and inflammations.
Chicory can cause contact dermatitis in some people due to its latex content. It can also cause skin irritations when taken.
Yet another common and useful herb.
