Celery is mostly water, but it’s antioxidant and fibre rich.
The fibre makes it good for the heart and digestive system.
One special constituent in celery is apigenin. Lab tests have shown that apigenin may contribute to apoptosis, a type of programmed cell death, which, it’s believed, could make it useful as a cancer treatment.
Apigenin and apigenin-rich diets may reduce the expression of certain inflammatory proteins, so, may reduce inflammation and restore balance to the immune system.
Celery also contains a flavonoid called luteolin. It has been suggested that luteolin may help prevent the spread of cancer cells and induce cell death. It has been proposed that luteolin may be useful to support and enhance cancer treatments.
And to add to all of this, celery is very high in calcium and silicon which are required to regenerate and strengthen bones. Celery is also high in Vitamin K which plays an important role in bone metabolism and protection against osteoporosis.
And it does a lot more too.
What a useful herb!!!! And easy to eat!!!
