Barberry is another herb I found growing down in my local riverbed.
Barberry contains the alkaline, Berberine, which some studies have shown may have antioxidant effects on cell damage caused by free radicals, which are unstable atoms that can be harmful if they accumulate in the body, causing illness and aging.
The use of barberry in medicine dates back more than 2,500 years. All parts of the plant are useful.
Historically Barberry has been used to treat diabetes, liver disease, gallbladder pain, digestive disorders, urinary tract diseases, gallstones, constipation, heartburn, diarrhoea, malaria, dental plaque (tartar), swollen gums (gingivitis), to improve appetite, fever, prevention of metabolic syndrome, heart health and much more.
What nature has provided us for wellness is truly exciting to find and learn about.
