An apple a day keeps the doctor away!!!!!
I remember hearing this often when I was growing up.
It’s not surprising given their history of use in herbal medicine.
They are high in antioxidants, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds and have historically been used to help guard the skin from oxidative stress, i.e., the harmful effects of free radicals in the environment.
Not only that, but these nutrients help to repair damaged skin from harsh effects of UV rays and air pollution.
Apples have also traditionally been used to control diarrhoea or constipation, and for the softening, passage, and collection of gallstones.
They have also been used to prevent cancer, especially lung cancer, and to reduce the risk of stroke.
Other traditional uses include treating, diabetes, dysentery, fever, heart problems, high blood pressure, obesity, gut health, warts, and a vitamin C-deficiency condition called scurvy.
Apples contain an abundance of Phloridzin. Phloridzin prevents the kidneys from reabsorbing sugar. This lowers blood sugar levels. Good news for diabetics.
Phloridzin might also slow tumour growth and lessen bone loss. This coupled with apples being rich in bone building silica makes them awesome support for any bone related issues.
These surely must be one of the tastiest medicines available to us?
It’s not meant to be complicated to be well.
