Almonds are jam packed full of beneficial nutrients, fibre and proteins, and are excellent for helping to control blood sugar levels.
They are not technically a nut but are the seed of a fruit. They are believed to be antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunity boosting, cholesterol regulating, antibacterial, anti-fungal and emollient (moisturising) and vitamin E rich.
They have been used as a highly nutritious food, and medicinally, for millennia, and are the oldest trees dating back 3000 to 2000 BC, in Jordan.
Historically they have been used for cancer prevention, blood sugar control, digestive issues, natural anaesthetic, diabetes prevention, high cholesterol, heart health, skin nourishing, bone health, high blood pressure, weight management, and much more.
Consuming almonds in excess can cause nausea, diarrhoea, shortness of breath and problems swallowing. Like everything; in moderation. A small handful a day may be perfect.
Almonds can be stored in a refrigerator for 2 years and this is because of their high Vitamin E content.
Interestingly, India considers almonds to be a major brain food for children.
It’s not meant to be complicated to be well, nor is it meant to be expensive.
